Following today’s vote at plenary on the Emissions Trading System the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) is overall encouraged by the compromise text reached.

CEPI has published its preliminary statistics for 2016.

You can find below a summary of the main findings below. Download the publication.

We welcome the European Commission’s intention to create a technically interoperable system in all Member States. However, the introduction of any distance-based road charging measure will inevitably be more costly. Road charging should not result in penalising of the road.

Short summary: The proposal to reduce the VAT rate for e-books will not necessarily reduce the current price of e-books, as publishers may not pass this reduction to the end consumer.

Short summary: We support a completely free market for transport services in the European Union that can improve industry’s competitiveness. Liability of shippers should be proportionate.

The European Standard EN 643, European list of standard grades of paper and board for recycling, is the basic document to be used by industry professionals in the buying and selling of paper for recycling. Interested parties should order the EN 643 from their respective national standardisation body1.

Like other industries in the EU, Europe’s pulp and paper sector has noticed that fewer young people are joining its workforce than in the past. The EU’s population is ageing and stagnating, which is an additional concern for its future workforce.
