Product Innovation

The European paper industry is a highly innovative sector. Its strategic vision of reconciling sustainability and competitiveness, the inherent properties of its raw materials, and the transformation the sector is going through are delivering a range of innovative new products with new functionalities and bio-values, including materials that can replace fossil-based alternatives.

Every two years Cepi collects industry’s newest and most innovative products in Paper presents, showcasing the versatility and innovation in the industry.

Via biorefinery processes the value of our natural resource is even further increased. Cepi keeps track on the biorefinery developments and new markets. Cepi is also a founding member of the European Bioeconomy Alliance.

There is also an increasing interest in paper and paper products made out of non-wood fibre, sourced from the agricultural and textile sectors. A study commissioned by Cepi to the nova-Institute, concludes that the material streams hold potential to contribute to the sustainable growth of the pulp and paper sector.

Cepi organises the European Blue Sky Awards where every year three researchers from all over Europe are distinguished for their work. A large part of their work is on new products, like wood based batteries and applications for nano-cellulose.
